For such a showy (and hardy) perennial, I rarely come across it in other gardens! I'm talking about the Caryopertis (or sometimes referred to as 'Bluebeard'). My cultivar is called "Dark Knight" and were all shared as cuttings from a friend. They are beautiful when planted in a grouping. They love the full sun and require no maintenance! Like the Butterfly Bush,
the woody stems can die back in the winter, particularly in colder
climates and on heavy soils. They prefer well-drained, sandy soil in
full sun, but does not need especially rich soil or constant moisture. Under the right conditions, you can expect them to grow into a small shrub. Sit back and enjoy the show . . . of vibrant flowers!
